Urban Ore accepts a wide range of objects that can be sold again as-is or can be recycled. Our function is to prevent still-useful objects from being wasted. Because of hazardous-waste laws, however, and based on our experience as a retailer, there are some things we cannot accept.  The following list shows some items we do not accept. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.  An Urban Ore staff member must approve all dropoffs, and no staff member will promise on the phone to accept any specific item sight unseen. All phone conversations will discuss general practices only.   Urban Ore accepts many things free, pays for some using cash and trade credit, and charges recycling service fees for some things that cost us more in processing labor than we can recover in sales. Generally we do not pay for certain categories of merchandise that we receive in abundance and sell for low prices, such as clothes, housewares, and small appliances. These will be received as drop-off items only. If you have questions about the acceptability of specific items please call the Receiving Department at 510.841.SAVE ext. 314.
